I'm happy i didn't have anything that i wanted when i was younger, MY mom will always tell me every time i try to tell her how my classmate or friends got a new bag or toy, she'll always tell me not to be envious of others. She'll always tell me, "kaya ikaw magaral ka ng mabuti kasi wala akong maipapamana sayo kungdi yung edukasyon mo" and in time i learned to be happy and be contented of what i could afford or what she can afford to give me. There's one christmas ill never forget that we didn't have anything, we were really broke but we were so happy, after dinner at my cousin's house we went home sat outside the house and lit up some cheap fireworks, you guys remember the 2 pesos lusis? or whatever you call that. And my mom told me, "kahit wala tyong mraming bagay basta masaya at malusog tyong lahat, sama sama tyo yun ang importante" (
even we don't have everything in the world, as long as we're happy, healthy and we're together thats what matters).
I'm happy because I learned to appreciate things even more. Now, i work hard for what i have and it's the best feeling in the world to be able to not depend on anybody and be in the position to provide. It's sad how i see kids i know today, at early age i see them seeing things by the price tag and not by the person's effort to give. at early age been given everything they wanted and expect everything to be just handed down to them. It's heartbreaking that when they grow up they'll expect more and not appreciate little things because they know somebody is willing to buy them everything they want.
I can still remember the joy of purchasing my own ipod touch that i worked for 2 weeks straight 12 hours shifts. MY camera that i worked for how many months as well as my laptop. All this things i value and appreciate coz i worked hard for it.
Im not saying this kids needs to work first obviously thats not possible but to be able to start with little things with small value first and work their way through. I think it's very vital for parents to instill the value of appreciation to their kids while they're still young. Learning not to compete with what others have but to make use of what is available. I saw a kid crying over a game because he lost and when i say crying, CRYING AND SCREAMING because his mom interrupted him while he's playing and he lost and he blamed his mom for that. I WAS LIKE, RUFCKGKDDNGME?
I remember when i was younger i can't even say a word if my mom is talking with somebody, i have to literally wait for them to finish before i open my mouth. Saying po or opo. Mag mano sa matanda. I can't even ask for anything when we go grocery shopping. So strict but i learned how to behave and the fear and respect is their. I was a brat but oh man i got the beating hard! And if im really persistent i should always say it only twice coz the third time i know im gonna get yelled at. It's rough but when i look back i can really say i have a good childhood memories.
I wish when i have my own kids i wil be a good parent.
